Ignition Coils, perpetual replacement of
Hi all, perhaps the reason I have not posted in years is that my 06 A3 with 55K miles on it has been amazingly reliable. That is, besides the ignition coils. As of today, with 4 new coils being done, I think I've gone through 10, in total. But it's been over a number of years, and it includes a full switch out by the dealer as part of the campaign.
Today, though, because it was done at the dealer, I'm out $400 for a fresh set.
So - the reason I write this is to ask, does anyone know if the root cause is other than the coils themselves?
Why do these things continue to fail?

I'm around 75k with my '07 2.0t a3 and the only reason I replaced all coil packs and spark plugs was for preventive maintenance and a tune-up.
What exactly are the symptoms you are experiencing that you have to replace the coils?

The first four were done while the car was in for scheduled maintenance; there were no problems, but the recall was in effect.
Then I had, on two occasions, the Check Engine light come on. No symptoms, but there were codes saying certain coils failed.
And last week, my car started stuttering, idling VERY roughly, and felt crazily underpowered. The shop found one faulty coil, but convinced me that doing all four would be smart, from a labor standpoint.
I asked them to send back the parts replaced, so theoretically, if I have another failure after 12 months, I'll at least have 3 functioning coils that might be usable.

Diesel Coil light warning
I have an A5 Cabriolet Diesel Turbo 3.0 and the coil light came on 1 day ago and the acceleration in the car has vanished but the car will pick up momentum and still able to reach speed required albeit it now takes a 1/4 mile. What do I need to do.. Please..

Sorry to hear about your problem but you should post this in the correct forum (under A5 models) - this is one is for A3 models. One thing I can tell you for sure, no Spark plugs or coil packs on a diesel engine.
