Interesting article. But economy is not the number one factor driving me in this car. I want all-out performance first, with a good dose of economy thrown in for good measure. The first thing I would do would be to retune the ECU and lose every ounce of economy programming built in. Next would be to ditch those low rolling resistence tires for something that gripped. But that's me.

Cheers!

If that's the same 1.9 TDi that we used to get over here then I can tell you they remap really well! My wife has the 100bhp TDi in her Polo and it goes like the clappers but still returns ridiculous mpg. See here http://www.custom-code.co.uk/index.phpfor what we got.

I used to have the 1.9L TDI in my VW a few years ago and I did some extensive mods on that car which returned sick amounts of torque. Great engines.

Hi Chef,
I love my 1.9 tdi (2002 model-last of the older shape) which has peppy performance as well as economy but here in the UK the tide is turning I'm afraid- there's no room left on the roads anymore for the benefit of fast cars and economy isTHE word at the moment too!
I aim to change mine this year for the DSG gearbox..would that be with 'e' or without I wonder?
John.
