Default Wheel bearings problem??

Has anyone had or know of wheel bearing problems with an '06 A3?? Can anyone tell me what the tell tale signs are of a bad wheel bearing? I have a constant whine that come from the front left (I think) at 30mph++. I can describe it best as a hollow metalic sounding whine that pulsates from higher pitch to lower pitch, raising and falling constantly at speed. Very annoying!! I searched the forum but the most the bearing trouble seems to occur with A4's.
I am taking the car to the dealer but I just wondered if anyone had any info concerningmy "possible" problem with my A3.
Any info you could share would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hopefully more simple but I had the exact same noise- new brakes and discs fitted andwas good as new again.

I have only 20,000 miles on the car. Should new brakes be needed this early, do you think?

i'd think brakes are more likely then a wheel bearing...I hope. Do you drive hard? if you do brakes are quite likely...

Steer right and left at pretty low speeds in a quiet place; you can usually hear a bad wheel bearing making noise on the loaded side, and it should quiet when the load shifts. You can also sometimes hear them on highway ramps at higher speeds as you load and then gently unload a wheel.
