Default Painting Front Grille and Trim HELP...

I want to save money to buy the S3 intercooler for my A3, and thought painting my grille and trim instead of buying ones already blacked out would save me 400-500 bucks.

I've been envying Achtunings A3 to S3 mods for some time, and they too painted their trim and grille to save money. Question is, what correct steps were taken to make sure the grille and trim are painted to near perfection.

Here's a quick link to the actual process they did...

Any help would be greatly appreciated... My grille is fugly and needs to look evil!!

i would make sure the chrome part is clean. if you wanted to be thorough you could sand it, clean it off, spray primer, then paint. but i'm sure you could just paint over it as well.

I'm definitely sanding and priming the chrome trim, but what about the grille itself? I want it all to match, but I'm not sure if I have to sand and primer the grille, or if I can simply clean it thoroughly and just apple the dupli color on it as is...

did they paint the entire grill or just the surround? i guess it was the whole grill. i would just make sure the grill is clean and apply a few thin coats.

i'm not an A3 owner yet but getting one soon, that's probably what i'll end up doing.
