Hi, I have an 05 A3 1.6FSI. I notice an intermittant rattle coming from gearbox area when the car is started from cold, after being left idle overnight (normally only happens during cold weather, and if car not started for approx 4+ hrs). I recently took the car into the dealership to get it checked out, and they eventually (after 4 days...) came back saying there was a known factory issue with the clutch plate from certain 1.6FSI engines manufactured in the month my own was made. The clutch plate has since been replaced, however the rattle is still there..... Has anyone else come across something similar?? This is driving me bananas, and i'm starting to think the dealership only replaced the clutch plate as they don't know whats going on....

any help would be much appreciated....

Just an update to my unhappy problem, The latest response from the dealership is now that the rattle is 'Characteristic' of A3's, and that the clutch plate they installed was to 'dampen' the rattle. I've never heard such rubbish in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else out there with 'Characteristic' gearbox rattles????

 

Ugh...this type of problem and response are the MAIN reasons why I'm thinking about replacing my WRX with an A3. I really hope this is just an exception and not the norm...and of course I hope you get this taken care of properly.

 

its not the norm and a warning to Audi owners who use this garage, the complete 3 piece clutch should have been replaced there is no excuse for this sort of work to save pennies and if he worked for me he would have been sacked on the spot
