Default Should I upgrade to a TT

Hi. I'd like some opinions. I have a stock 2006 A3 and i am thinking about upgrading to a new TT. I like my A3 but I'd like something a little sportier. The question is, are the gains from going from a peppy A3 to a TT that big of a difference?

Thanks

Hi Stromo,

Of course both the A3 and the TT are fantastic cars, but also totally different cars. For me, the lack of back seat in the TT eliminates it from my list. But it is an amazing car for the right person!! However, the engine options and chassis are not all that different than the A3. I test drove a TT and sure, it is more peppy than an A3. Here in Taiwan it is also just about twice the price, and from a practical point of view, half the car. Of course, if practicality is not a factor in choosing a car, I would be all over the TT too! (So, is it a 2nd car, not a daily driver?)

For me, if I upgrade from my A3, I'm going to go to the A5. This gives me most of the practicality of my A3 and a lot of the sportiness of the TT, with great performance, a back seat, and a trunk! (The TT basically lacks the last two! And the A5 3.0TDI..make that an MTM TDI for me please! Now, if you go with a TT roadster...well...what a delicious prospect if you live in the right climate!

Yea, my aunt just bought a new TT and it is an awsome car except the backseat has absolutly NO ROOM AT ALL. Im like 5'10' and I have to duck to sit in the back seat!! Id test drive a TT and an A5 and see which one you like over your A3.

Depends on your use and needs for the car.

I had a popular japanese sports car in it's most pure definition for 15 years as a daily driver. This time around with the A3 I got something that fit my needs now and as I anticipate them to be for coming years.

The new TT is sweet. Probably a bit faster than the A3 too. I'm with TPE - when my eye wanders around the Audi lot... it always falls on the A5.

+1. My audi dealership is right next to a BMW. Everytime I go, I always find myself staring at the S5. Maybe when my lease is up, I'll splurge for that. It'll be very hard to let my A3 go though..... Maybe I'll convince gf or someone in the family to buy my A3 so my baby stays around. =P

I didn't even think about the S5. I watched some reviews on youtube and it looks really nice, but it looks a little big to me and it sounds like the back seats are pretty tight. I like the TT because it's small, good mileage (better than the A3 i think), and I think I can chip it to get the 0-60 into the 5 sec range. It would be a good daily driver with spurts of fun every now and then.

If you've got the money and don't have kids, I'd pull the trigger for sure. Lighter than the A3 with adjustable suspension has to give you a fun ride.
