Speaker wires

Right, I've had this "problem" for a few months, today I decided to take another look at it, and I found some "interesting" stuff.

So, I have an Audi A3 '96, and I bought a new stereo for to replace the casette deck it had originally. I am using the original speakers as well. The problem is that the rear speakers don't give out any sound. Today I found out that where the stereo expects to get the rear speaker wires in, there is nothing on the Audi side of the plug. I assume the Audi side has both front and back on the same slot.

Audi side (out):
--------
|x|S|S|x|
--------
|x|S|S|x|
--------

Stereo side (in):
---------
|S|S|S|S|
---------
|S|S|S|S|
---------

Worst diagram ever I know... anyway, S stands for speaker, x is empty. The empty places on the out match the rear speaker places on the in. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

Now, the real question: Anyone had similar experiences? Any way to fix this by yourself? Are there some sort of extra converter pieces? Thanks for any info you can give
