Maybe you are right but wouldn't it make sense for the manufacturers to have the speedometer correct for the stock tires and have the variations occur ifother sized tiresare used.

As for 130MPH, in my dreams!!! Could a stock A3 achieve that speed?
Your stock A3 has a lot of power, but 130 MPH is achievable. Haven't you noticed that yet?
Its just a lot of members here try to "fly" instead of "drive" down the freeway with their respective mod's.

I knew it has a lot of power. That's one of the things that attracted me to this car,but I didn't know the A3 was capable of that kind of speedthough (130mph) in stock form. I guess I underestimated its capabilities.

I tried doing 130mph stock and it was tough. The A3 loses a lot of its umph after 110.Finding a long enough stretch without traffic to hit 130 was tough too. Of course, after chipping to stage 1 its so easy to hit 130.

My A3 is too new to really push it yet, but as you said speeding to 110 is quick enough. Interestingly according to a lot of articles the direct injection 2.0-liter (150HP) A3 does 0-60 at 9.1 secs has a top speed of 131 MPH, and according to this article on the 2.0T FSI A3 manual does 0-60 at 7.1 secs can do a top speed of 234 km/h or 145.4 mph! Of course you have the speed kill switch set for about 130 mph to match the speed rating of tires.
Any racing pro will tell you want to do this type of speed testing on a long race course not on the street!

I remember a lot of VW staff going to Nevada to drive the stock VW GTI (A3 cousin) when they were about to be sold to USA market and many said it easily went as fast as 140MPH, one staff said he got one GTI up past 150 MPH. Who knows how long you had to drive to get up to that speed, yes they all had the speed kill switch disabled. I'm curious to how many RPM's the A3 is running at 130 mph?

Mine was slightly over 5000, IIRC Sorry, it was in July, I don't remember the exact RPMs, and I didn't stay there too long - I didn't want to spend the night in jail. What I remember though, is that it didn't seem that long to get it to that speed and thinking that it had more room to go.

Also keep in mind that that was indicated speed, not real speed.

Just for your reference Threeputt, i've got pics and video of my completlely stock 2006 a3 doing about 138.However, your postmakes me wonder whether i'm a victim of the drastic speedo error as well. The car is very capable and even when it seems to lose power, it still manages to keep moving.

Wow. Ghanaboi. I know you weren't doing that on the beltway that I have way too much familiarity with. Which track do you go to around here? I've yet to take the car out to the track but am really tempted at some point this spring. Though, if I really need a fixin' of speed - I'll go dust the bike off and take it out westwards towards the hills.

that would be the I-270 raceway. Lol!!! I'm not wreckless, nor do i tailgate others or annoyingly flash my lights, i just patiently wait my turn until Mr and Mrs considerate feel like getting out of the hov lane (after hours) and i test my car! Tysons corner traffic really gets on my nerves commuting to and fro GMU!

Ghanaboi, even with a 5% error you still at 130. At what time of night did you achieve this speed?
BTW, I went back to the radar site where all this began but it had been moved. I'll probably run into it somewhere else in town and I'll "retest" then.

BTW Threeput why are we even questioning your speedometer accuracy, the speed monitor trailer your referencing is probably not that accurate. Its not a enforcement tool, its purpose is to slow you down a average of 2 to 7 MPH depending on speed zone.
