just tried to install a replacement audi a4 steering wheel in my a3. Airbag fits and the the spline fits perfectly but there is a metal piece on the a3 wheel that goes under the steering wheel bolt that I think functions as a washer (I could be mistaken though); there is no such piece on the a4 wheel.

Is this piece necessary? see picture for the metal piece I'm talking about (it's the one with three screws around the hole for the steering wheel spline?
