Default Symphony Radio/VAG-COM Questions

I've been thrilled with the many things that can be done with the VAG-COM tool and Ross-Tech's software, and the radio variations are interesting but raise some questions. I've asked over on Fourtitude/VAG-COM (usually gets pretty quick answers), but no answers there yet, so maybe someone over here knows something.

The Ross-Tech Wiki includes Audi Radio codes and the Generation II (8P only) codes found at this link seem mostly to work for my 2006 Audi A3 Symphony (Bose + CD changer, non Nav).

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_Radio_Generation_II_%288P_only%29

I’ve got some questions about the options available.

1. Is there any way to get time-of-day to display in the radio? The Wiki for Generation II Plus includes an Adaptation of Channel 002 for Speed Display and Time Display options, but that doesn’t seem to work on mine.

2. The one option that doesn’t work is the Special Option (second digit of Coding) for “Speed Display Enabled” even when I follow the note to activate with the Menu button. That just gives me the SVC adjustment (see Question 4 below). BTW, I have a Sirius Satellite Receiver installed (but not used/subscribed at this time), and the code was already set for that option. What have I missed?

3. Is “Front Speaker Diagnosis” the Bose auto-frequency adjustment feature?

4. If GALA (Graduated Auto Level Adjustment)-Function is active (which makes manual SVC adjustments possible), does that disable the Bose auto-frequency adjustment?

5. What are the differences between the various Tone Characteristics offered?

- Tone Characteristics for A3 3-Door
- Tone Characteristics for A3 5-Door
- Tone Characteristics Type 1
- Tone Characteristics Type 2
- Tone Characteristics Type 3

6. Is there a “hidden equalizer” in this radio? I’ve tried all the methods described in the following link, but haven’t uncovered one yet.

http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony2.html

7. If the Bose-Display is OFF, are the Bose features also off?

8. The last digit of the coding variations includes these options

+1 = Diversity antenna installed
+2 = CD-Changer installed
+4 = Multifunction Steering Wheel installed

I’ve got all of those and they all work fine, but my original code was only set at “5.” Shouldn’t it be “7”?

9. Wouldn't it be great if the "Mode" button on the steering wheel could actually switch between radio modes (AM/FM/CD/etc.)?
If there are no ideas here, I'll try again over in the Electronics forum.

chinnobuds,

I was able to get several functions to work from the Ross-Tech Wiki instructions:

Bose display on/off - but what does it MEAN when it is off
Fader display on/off
GALA enabled - SVC is now adjustable
