Thinking of purchasing an A3. What are any concerns I should be aware of? How reliable? The good and bad please!

Just do a search on the forums and you should be all good! I just bought and I love it!

 

My biggest concern after I first got my A3 - was that my wife would think I was having an affair. Since I would get home from work later, because I was detouring over to the back country roads with their curves and turns. And I bet I had a stupid grin on my face and was in a much better mood than before. But, thankfully she understood what the cause of my strange behavior was.
A great benefit is also the insurance - I came over from a BMW 540 and was amazed at how much less the premium was. They rate the A3 as a station wagon - don't complain just nod and smile and pay the premium to the insurance company.

 

L7 I agree with you! Everybody thinks I'm crazy because I prefer to use the toll high way instead og the freeway when I commute home (to the suburbs in Mexico City). This cars are really fun to drive!

 

My wife is a snob and name brand luxery cars are a must for her. I live on a budjet soooo.... She had an 02 Infinity G20 (loved it), then an 03 A4 (loved it), then an 06 A4 (Currently likes it the best). I just bought an 07 GTI (closest to an A3 you can get) and it is so much roomier in the trunk compartment than her A4. The GTI seems way faster even with the same engine whch i believe they are lighter and that DSG tranny is so sweet. She really wishes she would have gotten the A3 because of my great GTI experiences. I hate the CVT tranny the A4 has. Bottom line is get the A3!!!

 

2wdBlazer - yes I would have to agree with you totally. The A3 is lighter than the A4 - I test drove both and like the A3 much more. Plus, after dealing with the trunk or the boot as our brethren across the pond refer to it. I wanted to be able to fit a big cooler in there. For a car that has the utility of 4 seats and decent carrying capacity - it is so much fun to drive. Then if you get the windows tinted - it looks even cooler.

 

Not to mention that there are a wide choice of fun parts available should you ever start to get bored. Starting with the dogbone bushing (an absolute must, even if you do nothing else), then the Neuspeed RSB, then your choice of suspension upgrades, from shocks to coilovers, and brakes. Finally, the ever popular ECU flash, taking your A3 from 200 to over 250 HP for $500. And I haven't even mention wheels, tires or exhaust systems.
