Default A3 Tires

I had the Pirelli P6s on my A3 and they made more noise than I could live with after about 10K miles--they were noisy, noisy, noisy. I replaced them with Continentals ProContacts, a fine driving tire and quiet.

Default My Rubber history

Had Pirelli's P6 on from the start. First rotation at 5K and noise started at 15K. Finally replaced them with Yokohamas. Rotation every 5K and balance. Now the bad news, last saturday went in for rotation and balance at 40K, manager now says that all 4 tires wearing on outside edge, just like the originals. This friday heading over to our local specialized alignment shop for a $180.00 alignment!!!! Really don't like the idea of changing tires every 20,000 miles....

I ran my Continental Conti Pro Contacts that came on my new 06 A3 til 34,000 miles. They were starting to feather and make noise. I put on the Potenza 960 and got 36,000 out of those. I am now in the market for some new ones. The dealer claimed the Contis were much better than the stock Pirellis.

Cheers

Default Update on tire problems

Got no satisfactory response from Audi.... They are not willing to take any action or offer any small compensation for my having to replace tires after 15,000 miles. Cannot stand the lousy Pirelli P6's any longer - road noise is unbearable......was a chore to try and make a decision with so many options out there. I ended up installing Sumitomo HTR+'s (NTB had a good deal on a set). Tirerack.com reviews were pretty good.....immediate reaction is "wow".....feel like I am driving on clouds.....road noise is nonexistent. I'm sure part of difference is just having brand new tires, but I am encouraged.

Overall huge disappointment with Audi customer service though......not sure about how I would feel leasing another car from them when this one is done.

I am having big time tire issue's as well now. I have the Pirelli P6's and my two front tires are both very bad, the middle rubber is gone and all you see is thread. I have to immediately replace the 2 fronts. I read in the warranty that Audi is not responsible AT ALL for tires. But to call the manufacturer's in the back of your Audi warranty booklet. I will be calling Pirelli North America tomorrow to see what the scoop is. I have 33,000 miles on mine, but the tires were wearing out way before that.

Does anyone know if there would be an issue if I just replace the front 2 tires? Or would I have to get all four new? I really cant afford all four tires at this time, and the back Pirelli's arent worn out.....yet. Also, what is the speed rating of the tire I should go with? I believe the Pirelli P6 All-Season's are "H" rating, I think. Does this also matter?

Angry Tire update...

Ok, hand a four wheel alignment performed and rears were off .25 toe and fronts were off well over 1.00 and reduce to .75, quote "its the best we can do without shims" cost was $189.00 and it does handle much better, tracking is great!

Went to the Audi dealer, service counter the same day and rep said, "gee, our four wheel alignment is only $99.00" but looked at the results and knew they were way off! The best he could offer was to talk to the manager. No official response yet, but I do NOT give up!

I replace the Pirelli P6s within six months, about 8000 miles, they were so noisy--awful. The Conti ProContacts are good, I use Blizzacks in the winter.
