I have driven both the 2.0T and the S-line 3.2, and I would have a VERY difficult time agreeing that 1)it is much (if at all) nicer then the GTI (loaded of course) and 2) as fast. Asthetically, the A3 does look like a mini station wagon as opposed to a hatch. It's kinda funny, cause when i was talking about performance with an Audi rep about the 3.2 S-line he suggested I look at the GTI instead...............
That true the sportback (5 door A3) does look like a small stationwagon but not quite where as the R32 looks a lot like a Golf. There are lots of vehicles termed hatchback. From a functional aspect I like them. Many people have discussed this subject on audiforums, fourtitude.com, vwvortex.com, audiworld.com to death. When ever a new model comes out people compare it to other cars, some a bit zealous, others are more neutral and objective. I myself still have one VW that has been serviced way too frequently, so until very recently my opinion of VW has somewhat soured. True their most recent changes are for the better with engine changes and interior features but VW has a lot of improvement to do before I would buy a another one. Good luck with your R32.
Cheers
Yeah, I had the same problem with my 2005.5 A4 2.0T, bought it brand new and had it back to the dealership 5 times in about 7 months.....4 of those times for factory defects/electrical issues....I am praying that does not happen with the VW.

Alright kids. This thread is officially done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! later Audi peeps.....sorry some of you are so easily upset : )

Keep it light
Lol... It's funny when kids "it's VW and it's SICK" call adults (I'm 32 FYI) kids when they can't find any legit facts to back up their arguements.

I am sorry to insult the King of Maturity. My apologies.

There is a lot of testosterone being thrown her ladies …

What is next, dropping the pants and compared who has the biggest????

The guy was a little exited, I can understand that, the R32 is a nice car and being a special edition in the US, it has a cool factor to it.

Comparing a VW and Audi is a little bit like comparing a Nissan to an Infiniti, they are basically the same car but they really are for different people and that is fine. There are definitely some differences and important ones but again the reason is because the clientele is usually a different breed (not better or worse, I say different).

So anyway, congratulations cshecks for the R32 but you may want to double check some facts before posting this thread in an Audi forum high on mods…

My 2 euro cents for all it is worth, and euros right now are worth more than your dollar…

For that same price in mods to turbo-charge the 3.2L, you can upgrade the 2.0T to the GT28RS turbo. Now we are in a race to see who can blow their car up the quickest. LOL

Cheers!
Better start saving up for a haldex upgrade unless you going to put slicks with even a K04. Hard to put the power down. Unless you swap your engine (which wouldn't be a 3.2 vs 2.0T comparison) VR6 AWD > 4 banger FWDif you throw in all the mods, just a higher ceiling. But yes, I agree with you that it will cost a lot more money. Then again, I don't think either of us would have bought an A3 if speed is all we are looking for. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

cshecks, didn't you say this thread was done? Don't go blab on about maturity when you don't know what you are talking about. Next time before you open your mouth and tell people to research, you better be prepared to get flamed when you haven't done yours. Forums can be very hostile when you bring in a I'm better than all attitude.

One of the main reasons I like/recommend the A3 2.0T series is the relative few factory car recalls or service notes. The A4 has had a lot more recalls or service notes observed online. Also you got the first year of the Audi A4 2.0 I believe which increases your chances of minor defects that are eliminated/corrected with following years. I have only really seen some early opinions of R32, no full reviews with milage, so again this is like getting the first year of a model. I purposely skipped 2006 and waited for 2007 for the A3 2.0T figuring that a number of minor improvements would be incorporated. The brand new 2008 R32 build from VW doesn't present you with a oppportunity to see how the car will hold up. Hopefully everything will be a lot better then earlier R32's. It should be a fun car for you.

Dude got kinda sensitive about his wanna-be R32. I gave him an open and honest opinion, and he's ready for a knife fight. Oh, well - no good deed......

Like any perspective driver he is very excited and nervous as hell about his new car that he just ordered and now has to wait a couple of months. Such torture![sm=badbadbad.gif]
Do you want the car behind curtain #1, curtain #2, or in what's in the box?

Probably a good take, John; I'm old, and sometimes forget what it's like to have so much of your ego wrapped up in a car. I do love my A3 more every day, though, and I own a lot of cars.
Does show that AOA and VW marketing strategy hits pretty soldily in some areas; GTI and R32 for the youngsters and boy racers, A3's for us older car freaks ( and the less excitable youngers).

Oh come now, A3’s are not for people who are more mature physically but more mature mentally. Ask anyone here what’s the difference between driving a VW versus an Audi. Driving a VW is saving a few bucks because you think your getting a better deal, driving an Audi is driving the real deal!
