What to do before chipping

RE: DV?
I agree about the LSD, but that is almost $1k, and you have to drop the tranny for the install. If it wasn't so much work, I'd have it done already. I agree that it is a very desirable thing with the increased power, but definitely not absolutely necessary.

RE: DV?
Good idea. The car WILL spin under WOT in the first 2-3 gears. BUT, you will be using that extra power in the taller gears while cruising on the road, so the passing power andacceleration is a great improvement that you will absolutely love.

Peloquins are about $1000 and Quaifes are about $1500 plus another $1000 for installation. This absolutely isn't a shade-tree mechanic job - special knowledge and tools are required. The only reason most people don't do it is that it is an expensive mod.
It doesn't change the fact that it doesn't matter if you get canit upif you can'tlay it down.

RE: What to do before chipping
Anybody reading this have either Pelogquins or Quaifes installed and have any before/after insights to share? I'd love to hear it.
I went for a test drive again last weekend and the dealer had me spinning the wheels in a parking structure to describe to me why not integrating limited slip on the A3 wasn't such a performance issue. He explained the LSD's primary purpose was to keep adequate power to the contact wheel in an understeer situation and wouldn't have much impact on launch. As for FWD, the dealer was trying to explain to me how audi keeps their understeer in check pretty well as it is already without LSDand I've read wikipedia articles about FWD that mentions audi as an innovator of eliminating understeer in FWD's so i guess i can agree with him there.
Not a single manual 6speed s-line in all of southern california or any that doesn't already have someones name on it from the factory (which is only 1 btw!!)
