Default XM or Sirius

OK...I learned from the dealer that the pre-wiring for satellite radio on the '07 A3 only supportsSirius (due to their contractual relationship). What do you guys recommend? The dealer said that the Sirius option is $500!! Is Sirius as good as XM or vice versa? Does anyone know if it is a major hassle to change to XM? The A3 I have came with the Audi Symphony deck and 6 CD changer.

Regards,

Hmm... dunno about 07s. But for 06s they can either have XM or Sirius. You can get an XM reciever from various online sites for about $95. The Sirius unit however is $400. I like sirius myself and recently traded someone my XM radio for their Sirius and I'm loving it

My'07 came with Sirius, which I prefer, but I wasn't aware of any contractual obligations. Between the two, I think it's just a matter of taste...or if you want to listen to Howard Stern.

Yep...evidently the arrangement that Audi has is now exclusive with Sirius. The '06 models offered XM for $500 and Sirius for $250. Now for '07 they ONLY offer the Sirius for $500, and the shop told me that it is wired ONLY for the Sirius. It seems to me that the satellite radio companies would have used congruent technology, but then again maybe the fittings, antenna, etc. are different.

Sirius has Howard Stern and HairNation. I have found myself laughing on the way to work every morning with Stern.
If you like that kind of thing . LOL

When I swapped by XM for sirius it was a straight swap. I think these units work on a black box principle so swapping should not be a problem. I see your in Houston. I'm going down there presidents day weekend. If you want I can lug my reciever and you can try it out.

Definitely no end! LOL

AND, definitely Sirius!!!

I have both and both my wife and I agree totally on the Sirius. I listened to XM right when it came out in February 2002 and listened to it exclusively until my Chysler purchase in 2005. Couldn't wait to change out my XM for Sirius when I bought the A3 in 2006. I'll never go back.

Cheers!
