Buy removing the sealed intake setup you loose your ram air effect which on the move makes a difference in forcing the air in to the car. Ram air is one thing, CFM is another.

I understand why BT guys have to run an open filter due to (mainly) space but even then they try and feed as much could air in to the intake that they can plus shield of the heat away from the intake. People with BT setups run open intake because they need a larger filter to draw in the increase CFM the turbo demands. The cone filter has less restrictions and draws in more air. AND FOR THE LAST TIME, TEMPS MEAN NOTHING. Anyone buying $80 heat sheilds should be punched in the face.

Take a look at modern bikes they don’t use open filters but rather use large intake at the front of the bike to ram the air in to the engine as this setup will boost power. They arent FI, they need the cool air away from the engine.

So if you are looking for an aftermarket intake then you should look for one that is sealed and will work with the current snorkel or offer another means to take direct air from the front of the car. Total BS. That sealed canister actually kills the intakes ability to draw in air. This has been shown on the intakes tons of followers in the TT section were buying.

BMC/CDA is a good set-up type as it used a sealed Carbon intake (Good heat resistance) and can be custom fitted to work with the Audi snorkel. again.... FLOW > TEMP

Here's my old 2.8SC set-up which worked very well with my set-up with noticeable gains, not major but noticeable. If you took of the restrictive cover, youprobably would of saw a gain, more with a larger filter w/o any sheilding

The only good things about this air intakes is that you get a nice intake sound when you hit the gas that it. At the price of lost HP and $300

Max power did a report on most of the major induction kit on the market some years ago and all the open cone filter performed not to well on a NA 2.0 car using a rolling road. All the best performers where sealed units with the BMC/CDA out performing all the others.
Now if you can show me a rolling road test to show a cone filter out performing a good sealed type then I will concede you have a point but as it stand I don't see how colder air is not better than sucking in hot air or why the Ram air effect offers nothing.

your forgetting the turbo aspect. a turbo heats up the air being drawn in, and then the IC cools it back down before it reaches the IM. even tho cincy disagrees, i still think having colder air going in still makes a difference but he is absolutely right when he says FLOW>TEMP. with a turbocharger it's trying to suck in a crap load of air, so that sealed filter probly doesn't flow as much as an open filter. if we had exact cfm numbers to compare the 2, that would be the definitive reason to buy 1 over the other.

NA and FI cars are totally differnt. Yes on a NA car, a cooler intake will perform better. But on a FI car, flow wins every time. I have said this to many times already.... the under hood temps will be only 30-40*F hotter than outside air. The engine bay still gets air circulation when the car is moving. After the hot *** turbo takes in the air it compresses it and makes it hotter. The differnce on the turbo outlet will be far less than when it came into the turbo and then the differnce wont be enough post ic to have a difference in iat and/or hp numbers. Now if you throw a restrictive cover like yours above on, you can lose anywhere to 10+whp. I have seen people loose 15whp on a 350whp car just by using a ebay intake filter like the OP. Now on a stock turbo its no big deal, but when CFM is needed, it better be provided.

The main reason I bought the $80 heatshield was to keep my intake from catching on fire... the rubber around the filter would melt on 80 degree days after a 30 minute drive. I did notice it got rid of heatsoak as well.

He was a PR guy that used his giac ko3 chip for his gt28rs, 2871r, 57trim and t3s60. He made over 400whp on a stock chip and did plenty of things out of the norm. His sn is gt-er on vortex

all you had to do was move it away from top of the turbo and manifold
