So last night I'm driving with the AC on and out of no where I loose control of the acceleration of the car. It begins to wind down on its own braking the car (the car stayed in gear) until reaching a complete stop and turning off. I called a tow-truck and had it brought home.

The fuel is at the red line before Empty (1/6th of a tank I'm assuming) and ive driven the car like that before so I dont think fuel is the problem... Although worse case scenario I can add more.

Ive had work on it lately: Oil pump was replaced; thermostat housing too; and the fan doesnt work but that only creates a problem when the car is stopped for a long time with the engine on.

Now when I turn the key dashboard says Check Engine and EPC.

Car has 116k miles, and I believe its a FWD (front wheel drive, yes?).

Any ideas? This ever happen to anyone?

 

could be lots of things.. normally i'd have some suggestions on what to look at first, but i think i'd start by pulling the codes first..

does the engine turn over?

 

It does. The starting motor makes it all move but it doesnt catch on like it wants to but cant

 

When you key it on can you hear the fuel pump prime?

 

Any check engine light? Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when you put the key in the on position?

 

I dont know what that sounds like. Im going to add 5 gallons of fuel tomorrow and see if that does anything. If not... I'll be posting more lol

 

the fuel pump will sound like a little pump in your trunk turning on for a couple seconds when you turn the key.. its easier to hear if you stand outside the car and reach in through the window to key the ignition.
