Default 1.8 or 2.8

Got a choice between a 1.8t and a 2.8 both with 100k miles, both 5spd pretty much same price. I intend on making the purchase this weekend or next. Both privately owned, both have full maintence records with reciepts including clutches within last 10k miles. I put about 2-3k miles a year on my cars as i use my bikes for all weather, be it rain, sleet, freezing temps pretty much as long as there is no snow or ice on the ground. So i got a few questions. Which would be better for towing my race bikes to races. The trailer will be about 1500lbs loaded. How does the AWD system compare to Subaru in the snow? Does the 2.8 weigh enough to affect handling negatively over a 1.8 in terms of nose plow. Are there any specfic trouble spots to look for on either model? Is it really worth it 2 have an Audi stealership inspect it, or would a private shop suffice. Sorry to ask so many rapid fire questions but i just can't wait to join u guys for a long time.

stock the 2.8 is more powerful, but as soon as you chip a 1.8 it becomes more powerful

i dont live up north so i dont know about snow driving, but i've seen tests done over in germany of snow hill climbs and audi whoops the competition with ease.

both have pretty bad understeer, but i doubt the dif. between the 2 is really bad

yup both. the 1.8 breaks down a bit more due to the forced induction. search a bit and you'll find the usual problems like control arms, tie rod ends ,etc
Is it really worth it 2 have an Audi stealership inspect it, or would a private shop suffice.
any good shop could do it.
the main difference between the 2 is the ability to mod. the 2.8 you can only pretty much supercharge, but with the 1.8 the options are unlimited.

if you dont plan on modding get the 2.8

if you plan on modding get the 1.8

2.8 is more "luxurious" as well lol.

since you really diddnt mention a desire to mod, then the 2.8 is the car for you. Especially if you want to tow somthing. But common man......why would you tow somthing with a small luxury car? I always get a good laugh when I see somebody trying to tow somthing with an audi
Any trailer hitch on an audi look laughable. With exception to the Q7.

You would get a kick outta my current ride. A 1.6 liter 2300lb MR2 supercharged pullin a 1500lb trailer.lmao Plenty of power with a 14lb pulley(Good for a 14 flat with a terrible launch) and without the trailer handles like a go-cart. I just want somethin a lil more roomy and that allows me to fit more then myself and whatever i'm carrying on the passenger seat. Prob won't do many speed mods aside from chip but i do intend on bumpin up the handling. So speed isn't an issue. Just luxury, handling, reliability(I don't trust momos changin the oil frequently enough and usin the right kind while also letting the turbo spool down after use with the 1.8 so i'm a lil more swayed to the 2.8) I don't really wish to upgrade hp a great deal so just handling, trailer towing ability and smooth power delivery are what matter.

then the 2.8 is definitely for you. more reliable than the 1.8, and comes with more power stock. its also a little more luxurious on the inside. since you have your other toy for speed, i would definitely go with the 2.8 for work and luxury. but you wont be able to upgrade the power really at all on the 2.8. it costs a couple hundred bucks for every couple horsepower. i would just put all the money into the handling and looks

lol, any small car looks odd pulling anything........ A chip is a waste of money for a 2.8, a chip on a 1.8 will give ya about 30 or so hp ad 40tq or so as opposed to about 10hp on the 2.8. sounds like though the 2.8 is the engine for you. 190hp stock, smooth engine, and you don't really intend to mod for HP too much. the 2.8 is also a bit more reliable than the 1.8 due to the turbo and other things.

Hmmm leaning hard now for the 2.8. I wrench myself for pretty much everything. Which one is easier/has more room to work on? Thanks for the responses so far.

i think u should get the 2.8 as the 207 torque is enough to do the towing job. plus since u won't be driving it much, it's easier to maintain
