Default 1.8 chipped or mbc

Is the chip safer than a MBC set at 16-18psi? Will a stock B5 A4 quattro run lean at 18psi with the ko3 if I use a mbc?

I still am unsure what apg's chip does? adv. timing, more fuel, more boost? or all of these?

If by APG you mean APR then yes, it changes all those things. Of course a chip is safer than an MBC; it optimizes the injector duty cycle, timing, and boost curve. Especially if you only get 91 octane where you live, I really really really would tell you to splurge on a chip for the sake of your car. At 18psi your car will mos def run lean, since the stock programming thinks it's fueling 8psi max.

If you're strictly wondering about "if it will work," then I can't tell you for sure. I think it would. You should get a VAG-com and a little Forge MBC (together still less than a chip) and turn the boost up to something reasonable, be a little cautious, and do some logs. I'd be surprised if your engine just detonated right there.

If you buy a GIAC chip then AWE gives you a 200$ rebate for GIAC K04 software if you send them your K03 chip. I know what you mean, though. Maybe you can restrain yourself and save for a k04 without buying the chip in between now and then.

My APR throws me about 15-16psi at WOT according to the boost gauge. It's a huge difference in power. I have thought about going the MBC and adjsutable FPR too, just haven't got around to it. I'd like to see if my investment was worth it. I can only get 89 or 93 oct around here, so I wind up with 93 anyway. I have to hunt to even find 92.

Thanks that is what I was thinking. If you get the chip (15psi) then I could bump it up a few more lbs of boost (18psi) with a mbc...... Or will the injectors be at 100% DC?

Doubt it. I bet you can get 3 more psi without too many problems...but I'm just a kid on the Internet. You can try it, it seems like it should be OK, but I'd highly suggest you get some diagnostic tools to make sure you're good once you start MBC shenanigans. 200$ Vag-Com+wideband O2 sensor+EGT reader<blown up turbo<blown up engine.
