Default 1.8t Increasing Boost..?

I have a 1999 a4 1.8t quattro.

im not sure what the stock psi is but i do want to raise it without a chip and with out putting a FMIC on it. I am told i can get a manual boost controller to crank up the boost. If i did this what woul be the most psi you would push on stock everything.(i also have a drop in K&N, if that makes a difference)

i will have my boost gauge soon and a controller soon after.

What should the stock psi be? and with just a boost controller whats the most psi SAFELY??

thank you and im sorry for the noob question , i just got the cat last week.

Unfortunately, 97-99.5 1.8T's don't have a MAP sensor. This means that the engine won't adjust for the added boost very well and you will run lean. Instead, you need a chip to remap the fuel and timing as well as boost. I also run an MBC with my chip just to get a little extra boost. The MAF and o2 sensor seem to be able to compensate for slight increases in boost, just not large increases.

You need a chip. Its much cheaper than a blown engine.
Giac is pretty popular for your year.

No map means you need a chip. you can get neuspeed or someone less if you dont feel like spending $500+ on a chip. I think their's is like $300. Its made to pass Cali emissions so its not as (i hate saying this) agressive as the others, but you can fix that by just matching the psiwith more boost with a mbc.
