Default 1.8T opinions

Hey everyone. I am new to the site and just have a few questions. I am going to look at a 01 1.8 turbo at a dealership tomorrow. I dont know much about audi's and I was wondering how reliable of a car it is, and if repairs tend to run high. I am used to working on american cars and doing mods to them, so the mod bug will probably hit me if I get this one. Are they hard to work on/mod? It has 62k on it and they are asking 12000 for it. Leather/sunroof 5sp. Thanks in advance!!!

At, 63k, it's likely due for a timing belt.

My turbo went out at 120k. But, the 01 tugbo should last longer. DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE THE OIL ON TIME W/ SYNTHETIC. Many cars can go alot longer than recommended without an oil change. Don't do that with a 1.8t. If the oil sludges up, the turbo goes bad. But, I'd have to say it is a good engine w/ alot of aftermarket toys available for modding.

Yeah I am pretty meticulous about synthetic oil changes so that isnt a problem. Just hope the previous owner was also. At least it has somewhat low mileage. I'll know more when I see it tomorrow. Just want to see what the general concensus is about this year and model.

Being an 01, it has the updated timing belt tensioner which was notorious for failing in earlier model years. You could easily go to 80k or so miles before even considering doing the Tbelt. $12,000 for that car/mileage sounds like a good deal, especially from the dealer.

12k is a good price.

Yes the car is very expensive to repair, esp. at the dealership.

Does it have the audi assured warranty?

Newp. No warranty. BUt luckily the dealership found a broken CV joint when inspecting the car so they are fixing it for free! Cant wait to start driving it.

What kind of dealership?

You might want to consider taking it to an independent mechanic that specializes in VW/Audi before you buy.
