1.8T vs 2.8 - NO not a performance question
HA, you looked at the title and said NOT AGAIN didn't you?
I'm looking for a 4DR, standard transmission, AWD vehicle to put two baby seats in the back. I do not intend to mod it at all. Is the 2.8 body the same as the 1.8T or is there more room in the back seats?
Are the options similar or is the 2.8 a more optioned out car typically? I was originally considering a used G35 ($15K) or a used 540i ($14-$16K) but looking around at autotrader prices, it seems I might
be able to get more for my money going Audi and pick up something like 99 2.8 for $8Kish or a 98 1.8T quattro for $5Kish (just sold an expensive sports car and I'd like to set aside as much of that $$$ for a house as possible rather than put it into a depreciating asset).

One thing i noticed about these cars is that the back is pretty tight. 2 car seats will fit fine but it's tight. I have one back there right now.
The A4's are the same size, The g35's are also tight...if you're looking for room the BMW 5 series will have more room.

Get the 2.8 it is theoredically more reliable than the 1.8T only get the 2.8 if you are 125% sure you do not want to mod it, even if their is a little in you that wants to mod the get the 1.8T you will have a lot more fun. You seem to know your priorities so go with what you feel you want and need
Crazy here crazy but Passat V6 auto 4 motion. same deal as an audi but for the same price you can get a newer one and more room for the kids. The V6 is a best motor if you want to smooth drive and ride. Both have there problemsbut the V6 you will pay more in gas but less hasle.
Its too tight for 2 car seats. 1 is not even good.
Thats why I have a ford expedition for the people hauler (i have 4 kids).
You, my friend, need an A6, or even better, an A8.

You guys are recommended cars that cost more than what hes looking at... hardly makes sense.
He isnt comparing a 2.0T to a 3.2 motor, so clearly he isn't looking to spend 30 grand. Recommend stuff within the 1.8T/2.8 range please...
Go 2.8 for reliability, back is snug but will do fine till the kids are 12 years old at least... no issues.

i dont think hes looking at new cars, and the a6 are compareable for price, and will give you more room
