Default 1997 BMW M3 vs 1999 Audi A4 1.8 T

I am down to 2 cars that im gonna buy, im stuck between a 1997 BMW M3 and a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T, both manual transmissions black on black. What are some opinions on both these cars? Which do you think is faster? more reliable? cheaper or more availiable to upgrade? looks? which you think is the better car to buy? or anything you have to comment on.

cheaper to upgrade: a4 (chip and exhaust) = nice bang for your buck (and you can get some ridiculous speed outta a 1.8T with a BT)
faster out of the box: m3 (its lighter) with later options to s/c it, etc. although, i don't think its much more than putting in a BT in the 1.8T

reliablility all depends on how well the car was kept by the previous owner, and how well you take care of the car when you own it
if you live in an area where you'll need quattro (ie slushy / icy winters), youd probably better off with the audi

personally i've always loved bmws, but i also love my audi, so lookswise id say they are both very different, but still very beautiful

hopefully i've helped a little bit lol

IMO looks wise these two cars are on two different ends of the spectrum. You got the Audi A4 that's curvy and sleek and you got the BMW which I think is boxy and boring. But I'm a female and it's been my experience that guys tend to favor the boxy style. I guess that doesn't hold true on this forum though cause most ppl here are guys and they all love Audi's which is a pretty curvy car like I said.

BTW I lovethe newer styled BMW's but before the recent face lift I wouldn't have looked twice at a BMW.

well it depends what u need it for...if your looking for a racer and to "hook it up" like crazy then go for the bmw...but if you want a fun to drive, more usable car (big trunk, fit a lot of people...i fit 11 girls in mine once) then go for the audi... then u have to issue of rwd or awd... there are a lot of things u need to consider...but they are both fun but i think the m3 would be a little more insane to drive...

Its prefernce for stlye and comfort, audi is 4 door M3 is 2, M3 has higher stock Hp Audi can be modded to heaven and back again for a decent price, they are both $$ to fix and both need good gas. But by the by both beatiful cars id try and haggle them down, and get the cheaper, if you cant make up your mind

my dad has a 99 m3 with many mods...cold air intake, coilovers, exhaust, big brake kit, lightweight sport wheels and more. i'd have to go with the other people that have posted and say it's gonna have to depend on what you looking for. the m3 is deff a faster car and great for the track but alot can be done to the audi to make it fast too

if you live where it snows, buy the audi.
otherwise, its a matter of opinion. they're both nice cars.

if you ready to spend more money for more power after you buy your car, then go with Audi.

If you just wanna buy a car and stop modding/spending, M3 is your answer.

But, with the money he'd more than likely save by buying the Audi he could use that money and mod out the Audi so that it could beat the stock M3 any day of the week. Right?
