I think that you've subconciously already made up your mind...why else would you come on an audi site and ask bmw vs audi really though, I think they are different cars. One is two door, the other four door. one 4 awd, the other not (aren't they rear wheel drive)? Personally I see many more older audis that look nice in comparision to bmw's... old bmws always seem to look worn down to me for some reason

I assumed prices are same or really close to each other.

To beat a M3 will cost thousands tho.

Yeap. M3's are FUN off the bat.

Performance wise, the audi will be FUN only after you dump a few thousand.

ummm....no one cares that one car is 2 years older huh? if it were me, I'd always buy the newer car for the same price. if its comperable (as these are, as far as luxury goes....) plus its a sedan!!! who the hell wants to drive a 2 door?!

If I have to choose one of them and only have money to buy a car I'd buy M3 without thinking because performance comes first in my book but it's just my opinion. People like different things...

Hands down, get the audi, its an all around better car.
You can make it faster without to much problem, Id go for the sexy, curvy, awd, 4door audi over the straight, boxy, rwd BMW any day.

Now if you were talking the next gen m3 vs, the same audi, that would be a harder choice, but between these two cars, I'm sold on the Audi.

What did you think the audi guys would say?????

Two great cars but it all depends on where you live, how much faster you want the car to go, and of course your budget. Stock the M3 is fast but not as fast as say a B5 S4, but there are many performance options out there for that platform. The 1.8t is slower but can be a pretty quick car if the money is right. The A4 wins hands down in styling, both interior and exterior. If I didn't live in the northeast I'd probably choose the M3 (the E46), but when the weather gets sh!tty I'm glad I have the Audi.

haha this is funny because two of my friends have the m3 one is 1994 auto other is 1997 manual, the 94 ran 15.1 and 97 ran 14.2 in quarter of a mile. they are both sweet looking car only advantage i see in the m3 is that it comes with nice suspensions and its a 14 sec car but its expensive to take care of and to modify. but in a long run if you were to buy the a4, cheaper to repair and the parts are cheaper then the m3. if you think about modifying you can do much more, also my friends **** their pants when it snows because they have no control on their cars a4 u got the quattro. i dunno if it helps but its a hard choice.

Audi is better looking, more comfortable, newer, classier, safer, most likely more reliable. The bimmer was most likely beat to **** by the previous owner... why would they get the M instead of just a 325 or something? the a4 probably was a nice economical daily driver..... from my experience with my audis and my GF's bimmer... I would take the audi hands down... the M3 is gonna kill it stock tho, no question, and be a really fun high reving car... the audi can be made into a torque monster.

it all depends on what you want out of the car.. if you need the awd get the audi, if you plan to do a lot of modding get the audi. if your looking for a stock car and dont plan on modding the m3 hands down. it has much tighter steering suspension and loves to be reved, it feels almost like a turboed car too once you hit 3500 it pulls hard. i say m3 i wouldve gotten one if i didnt need the awd for winters, such a fun car to drive and relatively cheap to mod to a certain extent
