1997 BMW M3 vs 1999 Audi A4 1.8 T
Did you test drive the M3 or the A4? The ride confort in the A4 is alot better than the M3. RS4 is more comparable to the M3 in performance (well at least I think so.) M3 feels more agressive and the back seats sucks for driving passengers. The seat belts in the M3 are pretty unique as they tighten as you accelorate or brake hard. I'm not sure if you'll like that but I sure didn't.
The A4 feels more luxarious than agressive. Look out for common problem on both cars as you are buying a used car so some fixing maybe nessesary. Good Luck.

I think it is going to come down to personal opinion of which car he should go for. I see a good number of people saying that there is no space in the M3. I highly doubt the 4door M3 back seats are more cramped then our B5's, lol.
I love my audi, but we are talking about an M3. My friend has a 97 M3 and it is absolutley amazing. You are talking about one of the best handleing cars of all time not to mention if it is stick shift M your are looking at the tourque curve is reiduclous. He has a bone stock M with aluminium flywheel and takes out LS1's with out even trying.
BUY the M3 hands down.

if you want to get into modding go Audi, its got turbo waiting to be upsized! if you just wanna turn keymaybe go BMW, then again I don't no much about this particular M3, make sure not a lemon, it's also older car, likely driven harder being sports car-don't those naturally aspirated high Kw sixes like to be reved? - I think so... Either way mod or possible maintenance, good idea tomake suregot more $$ tospend later.

what i mean is that i haven't even been able to put wheels/suspension/exhaust/basic stuff like that because i've spent all my money fixing the thing. one of the most frusterating cars i've ever owned.

You need to be real careful when buying a german car. You should never buy one that does not have a service history, good records, and as few owners as possible.
My guess is you bought an audi with little or no service history, and higher miles, and you had no idea what had been replaced or not. Not a good idea for a german car. Also, It pays off big to do a little research and know what problems to look for in the car you are looking at with the mileage it has on it.
So, while you have had a lot of repairs, if you put in a little more research and have the car inspected this time around, I bet you dont end up with such a lemon.
Correct me if i am wrong, but this is usually the type of situation where an audi owner has a lot of problems.
Mines a 97. I have had a few minor issues, but overall its been extremely reliable, and I love the car, its very enjoyable to drive. I grilled the PO to no end, and also got the phone number of the first owner before him, whom I called and asked even more questions about what had been done/not done to the car. A little diligence here will go a long way.
Good luck to you. I want you to be happy with your new car so GO AUDI!!!
