1998 audi a4 1.8t question
I am hopefully going to be buying a 97-99 audi a4 1.8t auto. My dad has talked to a few people and one of them said audi's are very expensive to fix and always break down and arent very reliable. I seem to think otherwise. I will be buying one with 80k. Any advice?
do a search on the A4 forum with the keyword search reliability, you'll get lots of answers with that. My 98 FWD 1.8t 87,000 which i flew down to California to get was only 4500. It only has a slow power steering leak somewhere. I've performed quite a bit of preventive maintenance after being scared at some the problems people have posted on these forums. Plan on spending 800 or so on a new timing belt, there is a "defect" in the tensioner which causes it to go out well before it is supposed to in some cases. Its an interference engine. The previous owner has had quite a few electrical problems fixed already, sunroof, window, dome light.
