1999 A4 2.8 Quattro - Noise Right Rear Wheel When Braking
I have searched the forum for info relating to my particular problem but did not locate anything. I have a 1999 A4 2.8 Quattro with 85k miles. Adult driven, garaged and pampered. I had new rotors and brakes installed all around at 75k miles.
Recently I have begun to hear a noise in the right rear wheel when slowing to a stop. The noise is a scrubbing sound coming from the wheel but only during 1/8th of the rotation. It only makes the noise when slowing down while applying the brakes. If I use the emergency brakes to slow the vehicle there is no noise. If I let the vehicle come to a stop on its own there is no noise.
I have taken the wheel off and looked at the pads and rotor and there appears to be no damage. The wheel spins freely with no noise. If I have someone apply the brake while I spin the wheel I can not get it to reproduce the noise.
I have ran it through a braking test, both forward and reverse, at low speed and high speed with no results other than the noise continues.
Has anyone experienced this problem with their A4?
Thanks,
tvi

Imagine the wheel is a clock and everytime it rotates past any hour, let's say 2:00, a noise is heard when decelerating and applying the brakes. The noise is difficult to describe. Let's say it sounds like the rotor scrubbing the disc pad if the rotor was warped and the brakes were not applied. That is as close as I can get to a description. (see the original post for complete description)
