I've got a 98 A4 Avant 2.8Q 156,000. Sometimes my 1st gear will pop out. I've only noticed it in one situation: Start car, pull out of driveway and climb a short steep hill, then let off gas and cost down a small distance to a stop sign. So depending on how i drive i can make this happen on a regular basis. Does this sound like 1st is getting weak? Also i have a small radiator leak, dripping out of the fins. How long can this last until it has to be fixed?

I wouldn't chance a radiator leak. Replacement is cheap.
