2.8l 30v engine with 80,000 miles... What oil should I run?
I am currently running Valvoline full senthetic 5w40 like the handbook says to use (well it says to use 5w40, not Valvoline specifically)...
This vehicles purpose is to run as reliable as possible for as long as possible... I am not looking for all out performance by any means...
Should I switch to the Valvoline High Mileage 5w30? Or any other high mileage oil? Yes, I am running MANN filters... Thanks in advance...

valvoline is not my preferance in brands, (i run moble 1 or the purple stuff) just stick to what the book says about weight. and run synthetics and you'll be fine.
I ran Mobil1 in all my other vehicles but Valvoline has a higher flash point so I thought I would give it a try in the Audi... I never did spin a bearing, or have any internal damage with Mobil1, though both vehicles did consume a bit of oil...

Valvoline does make a high mileage (75,000 miles and up) oil that is synthetic... I would just like to prevent any future leaks, which aparently is what Max Life (the high mileage oil) is meant to do...
Mobil has a high mileage oil too... The website does not specify if its a full synthetic...

For anyone that is curious 0w40 Mobil has a viscosity rating at 100ºC as 14.3 where Valvoline full synthetic is sitting at 13.8 for their 5w40...
The flash point for Mobil is 236 for 0w40 where Valvoline 5w40 is at 238... I think I will be going with Mobil since the temps here are hitting over 100...

Both valvoline and mobil 1 seem pretty equal to me, either one would be a good choice. I've been checking out the specs for amsoil and will be switching next oil change.
