Hello all,

This is my first post and its a doozie. I just bought an immaculate 2001 A4 1.8t on Monday and it died on me while taking my daughter to her dance class. The oil light came on and the engine shut down immediately after. I am so pissed, I had a mechanic look it over on Monday as I am not very German savvy and he gave it a green light.

Unfortunately I was had and from the research I have done this symptom is most likely the oil pick up being sludge and starving the motor of oil. So I have a $3500 yard ornament.

If I have to get a new engine, what kind of options are out there for me? I know its gonna cost me another $3K or so. Should I get a different motor? Should I sell it for parts and cut my losses?

So frustrated and angry right now.....

 

does definatly sound like the pickup tube.... now that being said, mechanic probably couldn't have saw that coming in jsut a pre-inspection for you to buy the car


i would say if you are going to fix it...stay with the awm motor since that is what you have
won't have to change a thing... i also think the aug motor will work as well without changing much if anything but that i am not 100% possitive
