Default 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro Stick - how reliable?

There's one for around 14k near me with 55k miles. I'm considering getting an A4 as a secondary vehicle to put a lot of miles on. I currently drive an E46 M3 convertible that I'll be keeping as a weekend car but wanted a 4 door saloon with AWD as my commuter car and snowboarding vehicle.

I'm just curious how reliable this vehicle would be if it had a moderately ok service history (followed owner's manual recommendations).

Is the 3.0 engine a good engine or is it something a little more archaic that Audi threw in? Where can I find more info on this engine?

How reliable is the Quattro system in the vehicle?

Should I purchase a $3k after market 4 year unlimited mile warranty or is that money better left to grow in an account and be used for repairs later on?

My friend has a 02 TT 1.8 and it's been horribly unreliable after the 80k mile mark.

I'm hoping the A4 is a bit better in this regard but really don't know much about the vehicle except that I like the interior and it's overall looks.

Did a bit more research, seems the engine is very modern. Any feedback?

How about the quattro system itself? Is it prone to failure?

hell no, quattro will definately take a beating, my tranny has been pushed hard for ten years and the car shifts as smooth if not smoother than any new manual tranny I have driven...definately built to last, nothing to worry about!

Is the factory recommended maintenance schedule good enough?

Yes. Stick to that and the car will last you a long time. Personally, I would change the oil more frequently than they reccomend, I usually change it every 4500-5000miles.
But, that 3.0 is a very reliable engine, as well as the quattro.
