Talking 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Wagon Yellow Oil Sensor Light On

Hey all!!!

I quite literally JUST picked up my "new" 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro wagon yesterday yesterday. Its in awesome shape, fully fully loaded, and has roughly 120K miles on it. I absolutely LOVE this car!!!

BUT....

Within 15 minutes of driving away from the tital/tag place a yellow indicator light came on on the little screen in the middle of the dash display with a picture of an oil can and the word "sensor" after. I attached a pic of the light (was taking a picture of the dash and noticed it was on after) I immediately called the guy I bought the car from, he's a small time dealer of used audi,vw, and Volvo's (who also has a really wonderful reputation around here for being honest and selling good cars). He told me that this model/year audi is well known for this yellow oil sensor light coming on. That it only measures the level of the oil and not to pay it any mind, that he went over the oil systems with a fine tooth comb and everything is exactly as it should be. He also told me he's sold 5-6 A4's with the same issue and never had any call backs, that it doesn't affect drivability of the car whatsoever and that he's actually replaced these sensors in the past and it would still come on from time to time.

Should I trust this advice or maybe take action to fix the issue? He worked as a lead mechanic at an audi dealership for 10 years, before that working as a lead mechanic at a Volvo dealership for 10 as well and has broken off to start his own small used dealership in my area over the last few years.

Anyway, from what I've gathered from trolling around this site is its a really common problem with these cars and not usually something that needs to be worried about. Any advice would be greatly appreciated though, thanks!

I have read that these sensors can go bad. usually when replaced the issue goes away. As long as you have oil I would try and get the sensor replaced. Would be irritating to drive with that light on all the time. He is right though. As long as you have oil in the car you wuld be fine. The light is there to warn you when oil is getting low. You would loss that warning.
