Your post has some repsonses on audiworld also. You may want to go back and check that.

If you use REVO or APR (possibly GIAC) to upgrade the ECU, it can be switched back to stock. Dealer wont know. The new software can be loaded in through the OBD-II port in your car. ECU stays in the car. The older cars had to have a chip soldered in first... and thus still called "chipping".

yeah, i am confused as well. Do you actually need any soldering done to "chip" the car? Or can be done directly through the diagnostics tool- sort of. If so. I thought I read that they can do it via the internet. Does this mean you actually have to go to a APR supplier for example. or can it be done at your house if you have the tool, and if fyou need the tool, do they supply it or do you need to get it elsewhere. I dont know ifyou have reado r not, but im leasing, and if i can do that without having to manipulate anything on the car aside from some programming that can be reverted back to normal I would really be interestedin that.

PS get the 6MT

If you have a B7 you can just have software loaded. None of the companies sell the cables or software to be able to upload and flash the ECU. APR and REVO have ways to make it possible that you can switch which program you are running. REVO has a SPS that you plug into the OBD-II port, and APR you use the cruise control stock. I would say when GIAC comes out it will also be a handheld that plugs in (alteast they used that before for program switching).

The older audi's needed a chip soldered in. You can then remove the ECU from your car and update it with your personal computer (with APR that I know of). But that is not possible with the new software.

yeah all the companies can hide the programming from the dealer. But theres no way for the chip / programming to be hidden from a good technition. All you would have to do is look at the flash counter and the dealer can see how many times the cars programming has been flashed. So if your counting on the warranty, def dont chip before your warranties up

Good point about the flash counter. One of the companies clears the flash counter. I will research some to see if I can figure out which one. there is a big thread at audizine talking about REVO and it turns into a war with APR and REVO fans. I think it was brought up in that discussion/argument.

so of these chips: APR, GIAC, REVO which one has the best reputation for the b7 2.0?
I'm a newb here so looking for some help.
I see from their websites that REVO is $499 for +55 hp and +83tq and APR's is $599 for +41hp and +92 tq (coulden't find pricing or b7 2.0 on GIAC's site)

GIAC is not out yet. REVO and APR just came out recently. They all will be good though.

I am pretty sure that REVO and APR do not increment or change the flash counter. If you want to read the huge debate on REVO and APR click here (but beware of the drama) http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...r&pagenumber=1
