Default 52,000 service

Got a notice from my stealership (the rat-bastards!) that my '97 A4 2.8 is due for its 52,000 mile service. What do they do to it? I would like to perform as much as possible myself. I bought it last year at 42,000 miles from a stealer, and I presume that the 35,000 mile service was done by the previous owner. I had the carfax on it but I cant find it (DUH) so I am not positive. Have read that that is the big one so I guess I should check it out.
Does the 50k have anything major or is it just oil change, etc?

On a 97 models the dealer has it set for the 50k service which is nothing more than an oil change.
The 40k, 60k, and 80k are the ones the stealership is gonna take your money on.

My '03 is coming up for 50M. I also have the extended warranty on my car (full warranty just expired -rats!).
I'm afraid of having the dealer service, then hearing that brakes need repair, etc. At that point, I'm a captive audience.
Would aftermarket service void the extended warr.?
Are dealers really raping us these days? Figured they'd get their act together from all the competition.

The extended warranty can be voided if not serviced at the dealer depending on the warranty company. The dealer does charge a LOT more than an independent because they do lots of little things that other shops won't, for example lube door strikers and hinges, check OBD fault memory, check battery electrolyte level, pollen filter changes every 20k intervals, ect.

Yeah, that's my baby. I looked for 2 months and when I saw it, I knew it was mine. $10k out the door from a dealer. Not too bad i think. Thanks for the info. If it is only $88 I would take it in, as much as I hate to give them any money. I will have to call and check though, 'cause it seems they always want $150 just to drive it into the bay.

Yes, 52K on a '97 is amazing. You should have a lot of years of fun with that car.
