Default 90k tune up

so its time for my 90k tune up, and i am trying to figure out if i should do it myself or take it to the dealer and blow the $2000 or whatever they would charge me. how easy would you say everything is to do. also are is there any thing that isnt really necessary? im definately not an auto technician, but i know what im doing when i work on my car. any help would be appreciated. oh yeah, its a 96 2.8 quattro, thanks guys.

That's actually not hard, they change the oil and filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, air filter, check all fluids, etc.. I don't know if they change brake fluid as part of that as well or not, but it's easy stuff, as long as the timing belt has been changed already. If not, bring the vaseline and bend over.

brake fluid changes are done every 2 years the older A6's do not have pollen filters so don't worry about that

Spark plugs and air filter should have been done at 80K mi. Change oil with synthetic that meets ACEA A3.

Find an independent mechanic that works on German cars to do the timing belt.

Good luck.

The *** raping would occur if you were to take it in.

If the timing belt needs to be changed, find an independant mechanic that works on audis to do that instead of the dealer, it will save you a lot of money. Have the water pump changed while you are at it as well. Where are you located? Someone here should be able to direct you where you should go.

I have a 1996 2.8Q, as well. You do NOT need to use synthetic oil on this particular engine (unlike the hot-running 1.8T), but you will get longer OCIs if you do. You definitely need to do timing belt, thermostat, water pump, radiator hoses, accessory belts, and cooling system flush.

If you have an automatic, I strongly recommend a full pan drop ATF and filter change ($300, but cheap insurance).
