96 A4 i found for sale..
i am thinking of buying it. want to upgrade a bit from my neon, and although i really like it, i need something with better access to the rear seats. the one i found is a red quattro, not sure how many miles, just saw it from the outside. no visible leaks. leather, 5spd, sunroof, dual climate, 2.8. they want 4950 for it. anything i need to look for at that price? i used www.KBB.com and they said a good example should run almost 9k. now, this one isnt perfect, but looks wise, seems to be in great shape. what should i be looking for at this price. it is at a lot by the way. THANKS!!
do yourself a favor and try to get some thing a little newer like a 98 or 99
and the price of these cars is very dependant on area, and mileage.. i bought my 99 with 120k or 7grand, book value was 14,000

Upgrade "a bit" from your Neon? Ugh. I drove a Neon once... yeah. A 1996 A4 would be an enormous upgrade in terms of quality. You're going from a tin can econobox to a well built car.
What's the mileage on the 1996 you mentioned??? That's sort of important... so you might want to find that out before even considering it. A car can be way under KBB (though a 96 should never cost 9 grand) because it has twice the normal mileage.

if you are looking to pay around $7,000 you can find some 1998 or 1999 A4's. Seems to be the going rate in the NY/NJ area on Craiglist .. I just picked up 1999A4 2.8 casablanca whitewith 88,500 miles for $6900.. not sure if that is a good deal .. Many cars listed were going for $7,0000 plus with100,000 plus miles ..I would highly suggest you find one with a owner who has all the maint. receipts.. Check out the FAQ section .. really helpful .. Good luck!
