Default 97 1.8t auto to manual convert.

i've searched around, and all i've heard is its an *** load of work.

but i have yet to see any useful information. i have the resources to
do this conversion. but i'm trying to get a realistic look at what needs
to be done, how much work, and so forth.

or if someone could point in the direction of where i could find useful
information, or to someone that has already done it. thanks in advance.

J

Yeah dude, not going to work. In theory, it can be done. But it is not at all feasible, from both a time and money standpoint....it will require an assload of both. A TON of random parts, and you probably won't be able to find a mechanic to do the work.

If I had to ballpark a cost for parts and labor, I'd say 10 grand. If it's a dealbreaker for you, buy a new car.

reason why no one has done it is cause it would cost more money to do the swap than it would be to buy another a4 thats manual. in order to accomplish it you would most likely need a manual donor car to get all the different parts for the swap (its more than just swapping out the tranny and ecu) and it would take a REALLY long time. if you got the money and time to do that just buy a new 1.8TQM and start modding

ummm....can you say just buy a new car with a stick?

there you go. I knew you could.

I'm sure if you have an FWD version it would be easier than an awd version, but either way, the cost and the pain are such that you'd be better of buying a new car.
