Auto convert to manual
I ran into someone earlier and he said that the 1.8s transmissions die around 80-100k and that i should just convert it from auto cvt to manual. Is it true and is this a good idea? Doesnt sound like it to me but thats why im asking. Ive been wanting to lower my audi and put an exhaust on but i wont if its not worth it. Like previous posts im already experiencing my check engine light coming on randomly and my PRND is flashing but both turn off eventually. Should I just sell it and get rid of it?
Converting the transmission from automatic to manual is probably the last thing that I would do. You would be better off just waiting for the transmission to go out and then replacing it ("why fix something that isn't broken?"). If you want a manual (by preference), sell it and buy a manual.
i have done this type of swap on an 96 ecr33 (skyline) and it took a whole weekend just for the install with 2 buddys not to mention the time to track down all the misc parts. I have never wanted to beat the **** out of my car so bad in my life. and this car was pretty easy to work on. i mean if you dont mind being head first under your dash drilling a hole in your firewall with no room and not to mention figuring out the wiring of how to ground out the neutral to turn on your car, reverse, and speed sensor. then go ahead. its A LOT OF WORK. just know that before you start. it was well worth it in my swap. but i dont think i will ever do it again.
