99.5 A4 1.8T Quattro problem...??
I have a 1999.5 Audi A4 Quattro, with the 1.8T engine with the Tiptronic transmission. It is my first Audi (I've owned mostly Jeeps and Camaros before this). It is having a big problem-
The car starts and idles/runs fine, but no matter whether it is warmed up or not. It just dies/stalls the engine when it is shifted into gear (drive or reverse). This happens with a "clunk" similar to what happens when you let out the clutch on accident in a manual trans vehicle.
I have no idea how this happened, I was not driving the car when it broke.
Any idea what is causing this? Is my transmission toasted?
I've already purchased a new torque converter from the stealership to install....it was quite expensive. I'm just wondering if there is anything else to check (relays, solenoids, etc etc..) if the torque converter doesn't fix it. I have the Bentley manual for this car...no vag-com yet. Obviously, my cheap obd2 code reader doesn't work.
Thanks in advance
