99 A4 1.8T almost stalling
Hi Audi Forum
I have had a problem with my 99 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T for about a year. It was recently serviced and the issue went away for a couple of months but has now returned. Any ideas what the cause of the following issue is?
The car drives fine, but when I stop and it is idling, e.g. at a stop light, every minute or two, the car sounds like it's going to stall, but does not.
Any ideas??
Thanks
Dave

It seems like you may just need to adjust the idle. it should be easy to access. its usually easy. Here is an image, it should be by the throttle body inlet. I hope its the right engine. there should be a screw to tighten or loosen it to adjust it just adjust it to about to 1000.

Hi
Sorry for not replying earlier.
This issue was that one of the coils was on its way out. I had all 4 coils replaced and it fixed the issue (for a while).
Over the next 2 years all 4 of the replacement coils failed!!!!
The issues I had with the coils has put me off Audi for life....

When if u rev it in stop does it sound like its skipping? Chane ure plugs and check the gap and the spark. Also check ure exhaust system. Holes in the exhauts can cause this. But in most cases its the throttle body or the coil pack. All in all to trouble shoot and fix ure looking at around 2-300 in parts. If ure in cali u need to go as far south as u can to patch any holes in the exhaust otherwise its expensive.
