Default 99' A4 1.8T Catalytic Convertor Problem

My cat is bad on my car. I took it out and huge chunks of honeycomb are clogging it up. If I gut the convertor and put it back on will it set the Check Engine light. I know the downstream O2 sensor looks for the cat to do something and can sense it but will it notice thefree flowing cat and set the CEL?

If you do gut it, you need to install a pipe in the cat so you dont disrupt flow. Also you will get a incorrect flow cel from the o2 sensor after about 100miles or so

Just get a test pipe or high flow cat.

No point in puting a pipe through the stock cat, just replace with a testpipe.
