Hey guys - new to the forum, I'm looking to purchase a 99 1.8T I was looking roughly in the area of 50-70k miles but I have a few questions.

First up, once I'm use to the car, I will be looking to upgrade the turbo - I'm not looking for tons of power, but I would like to be able to keep up w/ an s2000 (maybe I'm dreamin a lil there) anyway I was leaning towards the K04 because my budjet isn't sky high, and it seems like a decent option. If I was to go w/ the K04, which Intercooler should I get? I've noticed they can range from 800-1600 bucks, is there much difference?

Also, off the bat I think I would want to get my self a chip and turbo timer - these seem like they would be easy installs, but will they work well or at all w/ a stock turbo?? and once inplace, are they hard to reprogram once a k04 is installed? Thanks guys

 

Chip and sotfware comes with the K04 kit - the turbo is no good to you without it. The K04 software is K04 specific. Any software for the K03 will not help you if you have a K04. You will have to change software if you already have a K03 chip and decide to go to a K04.

You will not keep up with an S2000 with a K04. You would not lose horribly, but he would take you on the launch easily because of your weight. Then the run would be fairly close, but you would not catch him unless he was a really bad driver. A modded s2000 would cream you.

 

I just bought a '99 A4 1.8T 5sp with the sport pkg for $12,950. I'm looking to do the same sort of thing you are. Keep me posted with what you end up doing. I'm curious.
