A4 1.8T Modding Tips?
Hey everyone...I'm new here and I need some help! I just purchased a 98 A4 1.8T with auto trans. I purchased the car as a daily driver so I dont put as many miles on the new mustang I bought. Anyway, I'm looking to have a little fun with this car and I am just looking for a list of things to do with the 1.8T. I didn't see any sub-forums for the 96-00 model years and there are no sticky how-to threads going around, so I figured I'd just start here. I would just like to know what are the best investments to make to the car and how you can cheaply improve the car as well as what most mods will cost you. Also what is a good site for wheels?...I dont even know the bolt pattern so I need help there too. Any help will be appreciated, plus I'm sure there are a lot of others who are new to the Audi world who would like to know these things too!
Thanks, and glad to be a new member here!

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I'll give you my speech about maintenance first. It is the best investment
1. If the timing belt hasn't been done, do it now, along with the front engine seals, water pump and flush the cooling system.
2. Use only Audi fluids (antifreeze, powersteering fluid). You can't use off the shelf stuff
3. Check the battery level and top up with distilled water.
4. Change th power steering fluid with new Pentosin 11S.
5. Change the transmission and differential oils with new synthetic.
6. New Spark plugs (NGK), air filter.
7. Check the front control arms and replace any that are loose.
8. Change the oil and use only synthetic oil and OEM AUDI, Bosch or Mann oil filters.
Once the basic maintenance is done, Your cheapest mod is a chip upgrade from either GIAC or APR 400 dollars and an upgraded diverter valve 710N. That will add about 50 hP to the car.

Buy a Bently repair manual and consider investing in a VAGCOM

Im laying the ground work for everything, so that when I get chipped it will get the most out of it without having to order parts. 710n dv, modified airbox, k and n oem panel filter, turbo timer then chip and MAYBE n75 race. With all that done Ill have a nice car but with a new found power. I have already had my 60k service done t belt and seals, waterpump and thermostat. Good luck on your path.

Is the AT different on the 1.8T than the 2.8L? Because when I owned a 96 2.8, the tranny oil was made for the lifetime of the car and could only be added by pumping it up into the transmission. Is there a way to add the tranny oil under the hood on the 1.8L?
