Default A4 1996 idling & throttle issues - please help

Hi all

Just bought an A4 1996 model, 1.8l manual. Great car, 45k on the clock, good condition. It's just been in to Aud for a full service, cam belt change, brakes, etc. However, even after a full service, it's not idling as it should. Tends to be slightly patchy.

Also, I'm sure it doesn't have the power it should do, it's a bit sluggish when you put your foot down, the acelerator can be a bit unresponsive.

Lastly, when driving in 1st or 2nd gear (in traffic) and the accelerator is suddenly depressed, the car jolts - it doesn't slow down evenly like it should. Even when driving slowly in 1st or 2nd with the accelerator lightly pressed, the drive can be a bit uneven.

Apologies if I'm not making any sense here. If ANYONE has an idea of what could be the problem, PLEASE let me know. I thought Audi would have sorted this out, but obviously not.

Dirty fuel line, accelerator issues, clutch?

Also, in terms of clutch wear - what are the first warning signs of a clutch going? Gearbox clunky when putting it in reverse?

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like repair work problem. Worn clutch slips when driving and if synchros bad will have hard time getting into gear (grinding)

clutch problemswith only 45k...

"Lastly, when driving in 1st or 2nd gear (in traffic) and the accelerator is suddenly depressed, the car jolts - it doesn't slow down evenly like it should. Even when driving slowly in 1st or 2nd with the accelerator lightly pressed, the drive can be a bit uneven. "

i think thats normal if ur in 1st gear and depress gas pedal and it feels like that...my brothers jetta does that...in 1st gear u hit gas depress and hit again dont matter if hard or slow it seems like the engine is loose and u can feel it kicking...weird....maybe a snub mount for that

Well..it is a 12v.

That is called engine knocking, it happens if you let off the gas in 1st or 2nd gear in a manual going slowly. And if you get back on the gas its not necessarily smooth. Its totally normal dont worry.
