Default A4 ecu programing

Hell all,

My daughter's 2001 A4 battery died and some try to jump it but they connected the +/- to the wrong spot. Took it to dealer they said the ECU was fired and need to put a new one. She couldn't afford a new one so after many months I found a used one and took the car to a mechanic to program but he said there is no power to ecu for him to reprogram. He checked all the fuses and said there is no power coming to a few of them. He looked under the steering wheel, there are a few relays but the rely in number 3 spot is missing. He thinks this might be the reason there is no power. The relay is supposed to have 7 prongs and I dont know where to get it, the dealers said they need a number. Not sure what it is for and what it controls? I dont know when it was missing, the car started before the jump problem fine.

Anyone can tell me if the missing relay is the problem in order to have power to to program the new ECU? What relay is missing? please help us.

Tim

Might be looking at the picture wrong, but could it be 371? Looks like 372 and 370 are on either side. Although I doubt this is your issue if it wasn't there before. Unless the dealer pulled it when they told you the ECU was fried.

Might also ask the dealer if there are any fuesable links that could have been burned out as well. You would think the dealer would have checked that before they said the ECU was fried. Never know though.

there have to be fuseable links and fuses. i dont think the ecu is fried, i would follow the starting/charging systems and check all components. does the battery still work properly?

I wouldn't jump right to the ECU being fried either. What does it do when you try to start it?
