A4 Evap and ABS problems
99 A4 2.8 quattro I have seemingly unrelated problems that I could really use some help with.
1) Check engine light with three codes P0455 (evap gross leak), (Yes, the car is turned off when fueling), P1136, and P1138.
2) The engine is slow to light of after fueling and only after fueling.
3)The ABS kicks in at slow speeds with light brake pedal application.
Has anyone experienced these problems and determined the corrective action?

if you are not having the hard start/fuelling prob, just try a new gas cap first, abs is same on my car as well as other manufaturers, its never been a problem.mine usually does it when i back uphill out of my drive, put in gear move about 10feet downhill and brake lightly cuz of hill, right then.at start up, all lights should turn on momentarily to signify they are working, check abs light.
okk...stupid question...but how does the abs work? i mean...is it on all the time
and in that case how do u activate it? we had about 12 inches of snow today
and the damned car slipped quite a few times...so what do i do??

I had the same problem today with my 1999 A8 4.2Q - the MIL light came on, and the ABS did too
The ABS light was gone after I immediately drove home to change my underwear. Pulled the MIL light code - its P0455 - checked the gas cap a buncha times, the light is still there (and no, I havent been fueling the car with the engine on).
No noticeable change in car's behavior that I can report, the ABS thing, I suspect, might have panicked at the wet brake pads or something as it was raining(?) Who knows, but its gone.
Taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to diagnose the (alleged) evap control system leak.
