hi all, i got a few questions about a 2k+ 1.8t quattro a4. basically, i currently drive a heavily modded grand prix gtp, but growing tired of the poor quality interior. i do love the power though (near 300whp). ive done a small amount of digging, and found that it looks to be a very costly project to get a 1.8t above the 300whp range? the 300whp in my car is nice, but it is a fat pig, and i am also running larger wheels (18in), so thus i would be lucky to hit 13.5 in the 1/4mi. i would like some advice as to what it would take to get a 1.8t quattro to the 13.5 range in the 1/4mi, on pump gas, in 100+ degree weather (i live in az). any opinions on getting stick or auto, and the dependability w/ launching either of these is also welcome. please, spill your brains out to me!

thx for the input. the post you linked spoke of a k04 upgrade, which i will dig for some more info on. what type of whp output can be expected of an a4 running a k04? is there anything more that can be done or can the k04 be pushed further than the 225 ive read about? also, what of the quattro drivetrain.. see, the grand prix essentially has a glass tranny when you push anything more than 320whp (sometimes less), so i am worried about trying to feed some power through the 1.8t, only to have the tranny dump on me because of the power. yes, i know that all cars have their limits and i cant push 1000hp through a stock tranny.. but im only talking about mid 13s power (which im guessing for the a4 is about 275 whp based on weight, grip and comparisons w/ my gp?).

i know that once you reach a certain point on modding a car, getting extra hp becomes extremely difficult/expensive. what is the common whp ceiling for an a4's most upgrades?

 

You could always look for a 2.8 and supercharge it to 295hp.

With a T-28 kit you could have 270hp on a 1.8t.

Much of the info on upgrading the A4 to get max hp has been discussed quite a bit. I'd double check the archives. Your tranny question is valid - you can easily upgrade that to handle any increase stress on the clutch, etc.

 

Lordlasarus, your goal of 13.5 can be easily abtained with a turbo ugrade and chip and few others.

 

I don't know exactly what my hp is, but with a satge 3 chip, exhaust, a K04 turbo and a clutch my Quattro tranny is just fine.

david- you scare me. everyone else- thx for the info. im continuing to do research on the a4's as well as a few other cars i have my eye on. a4 is lookin pretty good so far, all of your comments about the trannys definitly makes me feel better. now, i dont plan on being an idiot w/ an a4, but idiots do tend to stress test cars pretty well. so, to clarify, it is possible to upgrade the tranny to handle 270hp clutchdrops and not break within the 3rd time you do it? my reason for asking is again related to my gp.. i fear even going to the track w/ the tranny i have now, as a hard launch could be all she wrote, and the next car i get i dont want to be walking that borderline again
