i just got a used 1999 A4 Quattro 2.8everythingabout the car is amzing except the little screen next to the speedometer is not fully functioning like the littler r abit cut of ; its not perfectly visible.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? can it be fixed? would it be expensive?

The information screens tend to go out a lot on the B5's. You could probably swap it out for another one from a B5, but that doesn't mean the newone will last very long.

 

ummmm. well almost no ones screen works there is a replacement, $400 but people who have done it says it burns out very quickly. so most people just turn it off or ignore it. i covered mine up with a oost guage

 

It was really strange...this morning I got in my car and the screen was missing quite a few lines, I went and parked it in the shade for a while, got back in it later and it was significantly better. I don't understand it.

 

in the winter i can read my screen in the summer there s only like two pixles visable. must have to do wit da heat

 

I think it does. I just bought a custom fit B5 A4 sunshade, so I'm not too worried about it.

Most likely many of the failures are related to bad capacitors. When they get warmer they get worse. Someone used the cheapest caps they could get to save 2 cents per car.
