a4 question
I tried searching so don’t flame me. I am thinking of picking up an 04 a4 1.8tand cant decide if I want stick or auto what are the actual mpg numbers that you are getting? 0-60 times would help as well I heard that manual those 6+ and tip 9+ is this correct?
For those that live in a big cities and are always stock in traffic how do you like driving stick? do you get frustrated?
Thanks for all the replies

The only reason the stick shift is rated a lower gas economy is because people generally shift gears around the 3,000rpm range, as with the auto it will shift to third gear before you even hit 20 mph depending on how hard you depress the pedal. So really if you baby the manual you could get the same economy but what fun is that? Its a matter of prefference really, i only like to drive stick on a sports car because thats what kinda makes it sporty in my opinion. I live in Sacramento and it has a pretty decent amount of traffic and it can get a little annoying but when are you not annoyed in traffic.
It really depends on how you drive. Highway driving will get you better mileage than city driving. Getting stuck in commute traffic sucks, especially if you have a stick, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The only way I'd buy an automatic, is if I lived & worked in a hilly city such as San Francisco, where traffic is a constant concern.
I have the TIPtronic auto transmission.. its fun but i still with i would have picked up one with a stick... just makes the driving experience that much better.. I avrg about 27mpg highway, and about 19/20 city.. i once went 340 miles on one tank :P not lately its been about 200miles to tank... if that ( heavy foot, and got some upgrades)
Drive stick nicely and you (like me) can get about 500 miles to a tank. I easily get over 100 miles to a quarter tank, and most recently got 250 out of a half tank. You people all must have lead feet, because most cars are designed to go about 100 miles on a quarter tank.
i havent driven along highway drive in a while, im going to Jersey for vacation, i live in CT so its about a 4 hour drive but im going to hit the worst traffic over the bridge. So well see what my highway miles look like, i get about 330 to a tank but ido alot more city driving then hioghway.
