A4 Reliability
I'm considering picking up a 2000-2004 A4, not sure if it'll be a 1.8T or V6, but I have some concerns about reliability.
I am new to the Audi world and know nothing about their reliability.
What is most common-fail part out there? For example, 1987-2004 Mustangs like to eat transmissions with minimal upgrades.
When looking for a 2000-2004 A4, are there any items I should specifically check?
Thanks for your help.

make sure its Pre owned certified. Best bet for a safe car that has been taken care of.
the problem with high end imports is that onwers neglect them and then other people pay the price thus creating a bad name.

Luckily for you, I just made a post in the FAQ thread about things that commonly go bad. For some reason, my car likes to do everything wrong.

The drivetrain on Audi is solid. a few people have thrown over 500awhp at them for over 5 years and still have their original tranny and rear diff (the front diff is built into the tranny).
As far as maintenance here's some quickies-
Timing belt. Interference motor + broken belt= over $3k
Oil changes. 1.8t's are prone to sludge if they're run hard with no cool down before shut down or if the owner doesn't change the oil often enough. It doesn't happen often, but you don't want to get stuck with a 3200 lb paperweight.

haha i dont really see b5's its more b6's.
audi has a under the cover warranty where as long as you can show reciets that oil has been changed every 10K with synthetic they will replace the engine.( its bad to change at 10K even though it sais in the manual to do it. Its cheaper for audi to replace an engine if it EVER fails than to pay for an oil change under warranty every 5k miles)
so nobody really ever wants to sell their cars..
my bro blew his engine and got a new one along with everything else..turbo..etc..
what sucks is for the people that just cant provide reciets... they get stuck witha 10K bill.

I assume that's only for the people who buy them new, correct?
10,000-mile intervals between oil changes? That's nuts!
